Covered by the Dust of His Sandals Retreat

Just one of the many focused weekend retreats REST Ministries offers is called “Covered by the Dust of His Sandals.” It is said if you were a good disciple of a rabbi, you would follow his every move so closely, at the end of the day you would be covered by the dust kicked up by his sandals. This intense forty hour experience digs deep into following Jesus that closely…looking at what it takes to “get dusty” from Jesus.

Since we don't live by physically following Jesus daily, how do we become covered by the dust of His sandals? This course is designed to use forty hours spread over a Friday night through Sunday afternoon (although a shorter Friday night through Saturday evening course is available) to intensely dig into what God desires our discipleship to look like.

We spend time looking at what a strong spiritual root system looks like, inspect discipleship and its cost and we look at what Jesus says the one thing that is important in the life of a Christian. We also look at some of the basic spiritual disciplines in great detail. We look at worship and prayer…prayers of humility, intercession and humility. Fasting and then a wrap up looking at the idea of consecrating yourself to God as King David expresses in 1 st Chronicles 29: 5b. The end session looks at some statistics on the average Christian and further explains why we need to imitate Christ through an intimate relationship with Him.

Statistics show, less than 20% of Christians are committed to growing an intimate relationship with God and living a life that is guided and directed by their faith. If we intend to affect this world and imitate Christ, this statistic needs to drastically change…the entire focus on this weekend is on the changes you need to make to be in line with what God desires from you.
